DSL VPN Clients

In this article let us discuss GSLB Routing. It is defined as a service that helps in managing and planning the connectivity of IP networks between two or more local area network providers (LANs). In the business scenario, it helps in providing fast and reliable connections to the staff working in distant places. This method is mostly used for small businesses to provide a fast connection to the staff. The primary advantage of this method over the other ones is that the primary cost involved in setting up the connection is very less.

There are three types of GSLB Routing available at Total Uptime which are Extranet Network Topology, Outbound Internet Protocol (IP) Basing, and Extranet Group Topology. Let's talk about these three classifications separately. The first type of network topology plan is where there is a single IP network established between the different ISP subscriber end and the central administrator. The second one is to set up multiple network topologies like inside the same network, on different ISP's networks, or on a common internet subnet.

The third one is where you can configure in whichever way you want. In the above case, first, select returning of low priority if you are using two connections and select first joining of IP with high priority to get back connection request. Then first select low priority connection to get back the request of higher priority. This will be useful in case you have more than one user with the same IP. And lastly, you can configure the first priority of the connection for all.

The first configuration option is used in case of single-line clients; and the second one is used in case of multi-line clients. In single-line clients configuration; this is used in case you do not have any trouble returning a single line. In multi-line clients configuration; you need to configure firstly first access priority, secondary transfer authority, the first priority of HELOC, last known good location of HELOC, best known good location of SLA, this should be done before accessing any information from the server. This is important to make sure you are accessing services from high to low. You can also configure the first priority of HELOC, this is for virtual private networks. And lastly it is important to define how it will be distributed over the autonomous area. You can get more tips on this link.

The last one is when a client-requested content can be downloaded by different clients on the same LAN. In case of SLA-based distribution of content; SLA must be enabled before making this request to the centralized switch. The other important configuration option that is important is the Weight of Service-engine. The weight of service engine decides how fast the requests are made to the central switch and the response time to the client.

If you are interested to configure your own DSL VPN client-routers; then you need to know that according to the way GSLB works; the first hop always selects the best DNS server. It moves to the next after getting the response from the first hop. Then it searches the next best DNS server until it reaches the last one which selects the first DNS server. This is an important factor in DSL VPN when you are configured as a forwarding point.
